Nursery

Ladywood Primary School

At Ladywood Nursery, Miss Perry, Mrs Horsley, Mrs Harvey, and the team, welcome children into Nursery in the school term following their third birthday. If your child is eligible for 2 year funding they can start the term before their third birthday.

We work in partnership with parents and carers to provide and encourage our children to become confident and independent learners. Your child will enjoy sessions, which offer high-quality educational experiences through play, in an environment designed for Early Years learning.

The curriculum is designed around seven areas of learning:

  1. Personal and Social Development
  2. Physical Development
  3. Communication and Language
  4. Literacy
  5. Mathematics
  6. Understanding the World
  7. Expressive Arts and Design

Your child will experience fun and engaging learning opportunities that aim to promote ‘school readiness’ and independence as well as a love for learning.

We have a lovely, indoor space with areas set up for construction, role-play, creativity and water play. Our spacious outdoor area offers children the chance to climb, plant and dig. We are outdoors in all weathers, which gives the children plenty of varied opportunities, to experience the natural world around them.

In our setting we enjoy a group snack time, where a healthy snack and water or milk is offered to every child. We take the opportunity during this time, to share a story together or discuss a topic linked to our learning.

To support your child’s transition into Nursery, and to help become familiar with the setting, we invite children to join us for some stay and play sessions.

We offer additional ‘paid for’ Nursery sessions for children, who are only eligible for 15 hours free Nursery funding.*

Each additional session is £15
· Morning session 8.40am to 11.40am
· Afternoon session 12.20pm to 3.20pm

In order for any additional sessions to run smoothly, to ensure they are staffed appropriately and sufficient provision is in place, you must commit to the same days each week for each half term (usually 6 to 8 weeks).

We also offer 30 hours free childcare, for eligible 3 year olds.

*subject to availability

All the fun activities that you do with your child at home are important in supporting their learning and development, and will have a long-lasting effect on your child’s learning and the progress through school.

Even when your child is very young and is not yet able to talk, talking to them helps them to learn and understand unfamiliar words and ideas. If you make the time every day to do some of the following things with your child, it will make a real difference to your child’s confidence as a young learner.

  • Sing and tell nursery rhymes.
  • Talk about the numbers, colours, words and letters you see when you are out and about.
  • Allow your child to cut out and stick pictures from magazines.
  • Cook / bake together.
  • Plant seeds or bulbs in a pot or garden.
  • Use the weather – shadows, rain puddles, snow, wind, mist and sun – to extend your child’s vocabulary.
  • Explore the park at a different time of the year – go off the beaten track.
  • Share a book.
  • Talk to your child at every opportunity – e.g. what you are doing that day.
  • On a trip to the supermarket, talk about all the different packaging shapes.
