Ladywood Primary School Curriculum

Intent (What we want the children to learn and why)
At Ladywood Primary School, our curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and rooted in our community. It is designed to ensure that every pupil achieves, belongs and thrives, regardless of background, starting point or need.

It sets out the essential knowledge, skills and vocabulary that we want every child to learn and remember at each stage of their education, enabling them to develop confidence, independence and a love of learning.

We have carefully planned a broad and balanced curriculum, ensuring that all subjects are valued and contribute to pupils’ academic success, personal development and understanding of the world. Our curriculum is coherently sequenced, so that learning builds over time and supports long-term understanding.

  • Develop confident, curious and resilient learners who are proud of their achievements
  • Provide rich knowledge and meaningful cultural capital, widening pupils’ experiences beyond their immediate context
  • Ensure all pupils feel a strong sense of belonging within our Ladywood community
  • Promote our shared expectations of being Ready, Respectful and Safe
  • Prepare pupils for future learning and life in modern Britain

Implementation (How we teach the curriculum)

At Ladywood Primary School, our curriculum is delivered through high-quality teaching, consistent classroom practice and strong professional collaboration. Teachers use secure subject knowledge to present learning clearly, build on prior knowledge and swiftly identify and address misconceptions.

  • Knowledge is taught in a clear, logical sequence, enabling pupils to make meaningful connections
  • Teachers use assessment purposefully to check understanding and adapt teaching responsively
  • Lessons include regular opportunities to practise, revisit, recall and apply learning, supporting long-term retention

We ensure that:

  • All pupils can access the curriculum, including those with SEND
  • Teaching is adaptive and scaffolded, enabling all pupils to succeed without lowering expectations
  • Classrooms are calm, positive and purposeful environments, where pupils are ready, respectful and safe
  • Consistent routines and expectations support pupils to be engaged, independent learners

Impact (What difference it makes)
At Ladywood Primary School, the impact of our curriculum is seen in the knowledge, confidence and success of our pupils over time.

  • Know more and remember more, building secure knowledge across all subjects
  • Make strong progress from their starting points
  • Apply their learning confidently and independently
  • Are well prepared for the next stage of their education

Ultimately, our curriculum ensures that every child at Ladywood achieves academically, feels a strong sense of belonging and thrives as a confident, capable learner.
