Attendance

In order to achieve their full potential at school, children must attend regularly and arrive at school on time. There is a clear link between good attendance and achievement in class. It is the responsibility of parents/carers to ensure that their child has good attendance and is punctual. This is a legal duty. Parents/carers may be committing an offence if their child fails to attend regularly and punctually and the school has not given permission for the absence or late arrival. Children who arrive late also miss out on valuable lesson time and disrupt the class by their late arrival. Attendance

School usually starts at **8.50am. The playground is supervised from 8.45am and children should not arrive before then. The bell rings on the playground at 8.50am to let the children know they should be in their classrooms. All classes have an hour for lunch. Lunches usually run from 12 noon. School finishes at 3.15pm for all full time children.

** We are currently operating with staggered start and finish times to avoid mass gatherings at the start and end of the day. Parents/carers are not permitted on school site at these times. Children will enter school and line up on the playground in class groups and will be dismissed to you from the gate. All classes are currenly having lunch in their classroom, with allocated time slots throughout the day for outside play.

We have a member of staff who works closely with parents/carers to monitor attendance, whom will also communicate with you regularly if your child is not in school.

Requests for Leave of Absence

We cannot authorise term time holidays. In September 2013, the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 came into force. These regulations make it clear that Headtechers should not grant approval for any leave of absence during term-time, including holidays, unless there are exceptional circumstances. These regulations also state that holidays cannot be authorised restrospectively.

Any requests should be on an official school absence request form and handed into the school office for consideration prior to any holiday/leave arrangements being made.

Leave of absence request

You may be issued with a Penalty Notice should leave be taken, which is not authorised. If unpaid, this could lead to prosecution under section 444(1) of The Education Act 1996.
